This is not racism

georgethecat:

So, in a story in the U.K.’s Guardian, a politician was called out for supposedly making a racist comment. Now, if you read the story, to break it down…

  1. The politician, Diane Abbott, was the first black woman to be elected to the House of Commons in the U.K.
  2. She was talking to a journalist on Twitter about the Stephen Lawrence trial in which a black man was killed by two racist white men
  3. She said ” “White people love playing ‘divide & rule’. We should not play their game” followed by “#tacticasoldascolonialism”
  4. And then a bunch of politicians ganged up on her and called her racist
  5. So then she had to publicly apologize about it
  6. Racism = power + prejudice. This is not racism
  7. What she said about white people is not racist
  8. This is not racism
  9. But congratulations assholes on your attempts to make a black woman the bad guy here
  10. And then I basically lost all faith in humanity

Making it impossible for one group of people to be racist by virtue of their skin colour is something.  It might not be racist by this new “definition” (power and prejudice = racism) but it’s something.

When a demographic is used to being catered to, they tend to see any lack of catering as an injustice. White politicians...
